Mayfield Medical Centre has been a family medical practice from the very beginning of the of the National Health Service. It was founded by Dr Agnes Kennie, who originally had a surgery in Cleveland Road, Paignton, South Devon. She was joined by Dr May Blythe who continued the practice after Dr Kennie retired when the practice was located at Midvale Road in Paignton.
In 1972 Dr John Alcroft joined the practice at Midvale Road and he was followed by Dr Robin Hyde in 1979, Dr Ed Southall in 1982 and Dr Lorraine Foreman in 1984.
The practice was named Mayfield Medical Centre in 1988 when it moved to its current location at 37 Totnes Road, Paignton. The practice list size has since grown with an increased number of partners, nursing team and staff to accommodate this.
Mayfield has a large friendly skilled administrative team all working hard to make sure that the practice functions efficiently on a day to day basis.
Mayfield Medical Centre was the second practice in Torbay to be appointed as a training practice for future GP's before they were placed in their own practices. There are several GP's working in the Torbay area who have been trained at Mayfield Medical Centre as well as many scattered around the United Kingdom.
In Spring 2008 we carried out extensive refurbishment of the whole building and created new surgical treatment room as well as our Cardiac Room where we perform echocardiograms.
In July 2008 we were fortunate to open Mayfield Pharmacy which is a late night seven days a week 100 hour pharmacy which is unique to Paignton. Mayfield Pharmacy in Paignton offers the full range of pharmacy services including free collection and delivery where suitable.
The opening of the pharmacy has transformed the service we can provide to patients meaning they can obtain their prescription straight after their appointment without going else where and also means that patients wherever they are registered have access to a late night pharmacy in the centre of Paignton.
Mayfield Medical Centre is now pleased to be associated with the Peninsula Medical School based in Plymouth and Exeter and regularly take medical students as part of their training each year at Mayfield Medical Centre.
