Dr Avis qualified from St Georges Hospital Medical School in 1988, initially training in Paediatrics in West London including Queen Charlottes and the Hammersmith before completing GP training. He became a GP Partner in Richmond, Surrey in 1994, where he was also Medical Officer for the Royal Star and Garter home for Disabled Servicemen and women and for the Royal Ballet School . He moved to sunny Devon in 1999 and became a Partner at Mayfield in 2001.
He enjoys all aspects of General Practice with interests in Paediatrics, Care of Elderly and Psychiatry. He is married to Dr Lisa Bocking and has five children. He enjoys music, travel, family and outdoors.
He is elected member of Devon LMC’s Torbay and South Devon Sub-Committee and is the Chair of Brixham and Paignton Medical Alliance (BPMA). In 2016 he helped set up the Southern Primary Care Collaborative Board ( SPCCB) made up of elected GP and management representatives from all practices and federations in South Devon and Torbay and is the current elected Chair.
Dr Gracie qualified in Dundee 1996 and did his GP training in the East end of Glasgow. He has worked with Mayfield since 2007 and became partner in 2013. He has an interest in neonatal tongue-tie, aiming to make breast-feeding a positive experience for both mother and baby. He is also interested in respiratory medicine and joint injections in primary care. Outside of work he enjoys badminton, sculpture, hillwalking and trying to find wildlife anywhere, with his wife and sons.
Dr Eykyn qualified from St Andrews University in 1998. He completed his membership to the Royal college of Surgeons in 2003 and then achieved the Diploma in Otorhinolaringology and Head and neck Surgery in 2005. He has a specialist interest in ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), minor surgery and at the moment spends most of his free time enjoying his young family.
I qualified in 1991 from Bristol University. I’m married with one son. My special interests are ENT and prescribing within the practice, but I’m very much a generalist.
I love long distance walking and regularly walk sections of the south west coast path. I have a dog called Bubbles (don’t ask) who keeps me out of mischief!
Dr Gurr grew up in Devon and trained locally, graduating from Peninsula Medical School in 2010. During her time as part of a research team at the University of Exeter she developed a specialist interest in Rheumatology. She has a young family and in her spare time enjoys dinghy sailing and baking cakes.
I studied Medicine at Birmingham University, qualifying in 2006, then went on to complete my GP training in Torbay. I am particularly enthusiastic about preventative and lifestyle medicine. I enjoy long walks with my dog, rock climbing and bouldering and growing exotic veg in the greenhouse.
Dr Bocking qualified from Charing Cross Hospital in 1989, initially training at Westminister Children's Hospital and then the Hammersmith. She completed her General Practice training before becoming a partner in a practice in West London. She enjoys all aspects of general practice with particular interest in paediatrics, gynaecology and contraception. She is married to Dr Trevor Avis and they have five children. She enjoys family, travel and the outdoors, and plays the saxophone, clarinet and piano.*
I qualified in 1992 at Birmingham University Medical school and worked around the UK before marrying into the Army and heading to Germany to work with the Forces as a Civilian Medical Practitioner. After a few years away off work due to having children and changing postings several times, I restarted GP training in 2007 in Torbay Hospital and started at Mayfield Medical centre soon after qualifying in 2012.
I live in Totnes with my husband , dog, and grown up children when they are home. I love being outdoors, walking our dog, running , and I participate in the free 5k Torbay Velopark Parkrun most Saturdays. Its inclusive role in improving fitness, general wellbeing and improving Mental Health is something that appeals to me very much and I am keen to promote this within the practice. Susanna trained in Cardiff where she worked as a GP for several years. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and has a special interest in Dermatology. She is a keen sportsperson and particularly enjoys tennis.*
Chris joined us in April 2018. He enjoys clinical education, teaching and all aspects of general practice, in particular Dermatology and Rheumatology.*

Colin joined the surgery in July 2004, coming from a long career with Natwest Bank. He is married with two children and enjoys socialising with friends and family. He also loves sport (except football), particularly rugby and golf.
Dawn is our main administrator responsible for the smooth running of the surgery both from a business aspect as well as clinical. She has considerable IT skills which make her a much valued asset to Mayfield. She is helped by John Westerman who works hard ensuring we have enough stocks and supplies and that the surgery runs smoothly.*
