Dr Trevor Avis
MB.BS, FPCert, MRCGP
Dr Avis qualifiaed from St Georges Hospital Medical School in 1988, initially training in Paediatrics in West London including Queen Charlottes and the Hammersmith before completing GP training. He became a GP Partner in Richmond, Surrey in 1994, where he was also Medical Officer for the Royal Star and Garter home for Disabled Servicemen and women and for the Royal Ballet School . He moved to sunny Devon in 1999 and became a Partner at Mayfield in 2001. He enjoys all aspects of General Practice with interests in Paediatrics, Care of Elderly and Psychiatry. He is married to Dr Lisa Bocking and has five children. He enjoys music, travel, family and outdoors.
Dr Gib Eykyn
BSc MbChB MRCS DOHNS MRCGP FRSPH
Dr Eykyn qualified from St Andrews University in 1998. He completed his membership to the Royal college of Surgeons in 2003 and then achieved the Diploma in Otorhinolaringology and Head and neck Surgery in 2005. He has a specialist interest in ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), minor surgery and at the moment spends most of his free time enjoying his young family.
Dr Stuart Crowe
Qualified in 1991 from Bristol University he is married with one son. His special interests are ENT and prescribing within the practice, but is very much a generalist. He loves long distance walking and regularly walk sections of the South West Coast Path. He has a dog called Bubbles (don’t ask) who keeps him out of mischief!
Dr Carly Gurr
BSc (Hons) BMBS MRCGP
Dr Gurr grew up in Devon and trained locally, graduating from Peninsula Medical School in 2010. During her time as part of a research team at the University of Exeter she developed a specialist interest in Rheumatology. She has a young family and in her spare time enjoys dinghy sailing and baking cakes.
Dr Rya Symonds
Rya studied Medicine at Birmingham University, qualifying in 2006, then went on to complete my GP training in Torbay. She is particularly enthusiastic about preventative and lifestyle medicine. She enjoys long walks with her dog, rock climbing and bouldering and growing exotic veg in the greenhouse.
Dr Lisa Bocking
MB.BS, FPCert, DCH
Dr Bocking qualified from Charing Cross Hospital in 1989, initially training at Westminister Children's Hospital and then the Hammersmith. She completed her General Practice training before becoming a partner in a practice in West London. She enjoys all aspects of general practice with particular interest in paediatrics, gynaecology and contraception. She is married to Dr Trevor Avis and they have five children. She enjoys family, travel and the outdoors, and plays the saxophone, clarinet and piano.
Dr Susanna Pike
Susanna trained in Cardiff where she worked as a GP for several years. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and has a special interest in Dermatology. She is a keen sportsperson and particularly enjoys tennis.
Dr Julia Tysoe
MB ChB MRCGP
Dr Tysoe qualified in 1992 at Birmingham University Medical school and worked around the UK before marrying into the Army. After a few years away off work due to having children and changing postings several times, she restarted GP training in 2007 in Torbay Hospital and started at Mayfield Medical centre soon after qualifying in 2012. She lives in Totnes with her husband, dog, and grown up children when they are home. She loves being outdoors, walking her dog and running.
Aaron qualified in 2016 from Plymouth University, Bachelors of Science Adult Nursing. He previously worked in Intermediate Care team for Paignton and Brixham area. Special interests - Acute visits at home, and general practice. He enjoys spending time with his young family and all sports particularly circlet.
Cassie studied Nursing at Plymouth University, qualifying in 2019. During her training she experienced many different aspects of nursing within the local area, primarily at Torbay Hospital, but have always had a special interest in General Practice. She has previously worked as an Acupuncturist, and in her spare time enjoys sewing, reading and time outdoors.
Sally is the nurse manager, responsible for the nurse team. She qualified in 1983 as an RGN, then achieved BSc(hons) and A51 Specialist Practitioner. Sally has been a practice nurse since 1987 working in Brixham and Paignton. She has also worked in Minor injuries at Brixham hospital.
Prior to working general practice Sally set up the colposcopy service at Torbay Hospital whilst working in Gynae OPD and Family planning. Her work interests are women's health and long-term illness. She has 4 grandchildren and enjoys motorcycling holidays.
Sarah qualified in 2016 from Plymouth University with a Bsc(Hons) Nursing (Adult Health) degree. She previously worked as a Community Nurse in paignton and Brixham.
Michelle started at St Lukes as a receptionist 16 years ago, trained to be Phlebtomist and then did NVQ3 in 2010.
Lisa qualified in Adult Nursing in 2003 and spent 5 years working as a Staff Nurse on various wards at The North Devon District Hospital. These included Orthopaedics and Trauma, Emergency and Elective General, Vascular, Urological and ENT Surgery, Medicine and Care of The Elderly. She joined Mayfield Medical Centre as a Practice Nurse in 2008. She loves all aspects of General Practice Nursing, particular interests are Respiratory and Wound Care. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, cycling and going to the zoo and to the beach with her 2 young children.
Joanna qualified as a nurse in 2008 at Brighton University, Sussex. In 2011 she moved to Devon with her family to join Mayfield Medical Centre as a Practice Nurse and covering Cherrybrook and St Lukes surgeries. Her special interests are Diabetes, Womens Health and Tissue Viability. In her spare time she likes to cycle.
Debbie is a Health Care Assistant and worked at St Lukes for 16 years. Her special interests include leg ulcers and compression bandaging. Her hobbies include boating and holidays.
Nikky is a Health Care Assistant and achieved her NVQ qualification July 2007. She has been at Mayfield for over 17 years and enjoys travel, reading and socialising with family and friends.

Colin joined the surgery in July 2004 after a long career with NatWest Bank. He is married with two children and enjoys socialising with friends and family. He also loves sport (except football), particularly rugby and golf.
Business Manager: Dawn Hart
Dawn is our main administrator responsible for the smooth running of the surgery both from a business aspect as well as clinical. She has considerable IT skills which make her a much valued asset to Mayfield. She is helped by John Westerman who works hard ensuring we have enough stocks and supplies and that the surgery runs smoothly.
