It’s known that engaging in exercise, creative or social pursuits has a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing.
For this reason, NHS and Local Authorities occasionally offer these activities through ‘Social Prescriptions’, such as gym membership or ‘Arts on prescription’.
Even where formal ‘Social Prescriptions’ aren’t available, there are usually a wide range of activities on offer in local communities with a number of them funded by either Local Authorities, charities or voluntary organisations.
These may include: walking groups, dance classes, knitting, fishing, cookery and many more.

The Great Parks Community Centre is a venue and home for the local residents of the Blatchcombe neighbourhood. We provide activities, groups, projects and volunteering opportunities for all age groups. We are pleased to let you know that we are working closely with the Old Farm Surgery just down the road. For example, we have the same Practice Manager, Colin Whitford, and we are sharing a Paramedic (Ryan) who is helping with visits, as well as sharing some GP and Nurse resources and administrative support.
The NHS is constantly changing, and part of this are significant financial cuts, so we are doing this in order to ensure the long term sustainability of General Practice in this area.
